About

I'm Director of Engineering, Platform at Element Fleet Management, and I live near Salem, Oregon with my wife, our dog, two indoor cats, and several barn cats. I lead our platform engineering team remotely from my home office.

Before moving into engineering leadership I spent many years in web application architecture and development. That started with a lot of PHP and JavaScript, and in my more recent development work I mostly specialized in Go, TypeScript, and Elixir. I also like to dabble in other languages, microcontroller programming, and electronics projects. See Experience for the details and Projects for what I'm building on the side.

Outside of work I'm usually in the garage or off-road. I'm rebuilding a 1970 Jaguar E-Type as a restomod, modifying my Toyota 4Runner for the trail, and learning metal fabrication and welding along the way. I spent years hiking, backpacking, and climbing rock, ice, and snow, and I still get into the mountains when I can. I also watch hockey (Go Avs!) and keep my amateur radio license, WA7TSJ, for emergencies. There's more on the Interests pages.
