Fabrication & Welding

Metal fabrication, welding, and building custom parts in the garage.

Building cars means making the parts nobody sells. I’ve been learning metal fabrication and welding to make custom brackets, mounts, armor, and structure for my own projects, designing them in CAD and building them in the garage. Some of it ends up on my vehicles, like the F-350 headache rack and the onboard air mount on the 4Runner, and some of it is equipment for the shop and the tractor.

Haul Goodman tractor carry-all

The carry-all box with its swing-down tailgate

A three-point carry-all for the tractor, built from heavy steel so it’s strong and doubles as ballast for the front loader. The upper frame and wheeled carriage are detachable, and the box has a pickup-style swing-down tailgate. The whole build, from CAD to the etched name plate, is on the Haul Goodman project page.

Fence puller

A three-point fence puller and stretcher for the tractor.

The fence puller’s cross-shaped base on the welding table

The fence puller’s tall frame standing in the shop

4Runner air tank skid plate

The onboard air tank skid plate and mount on the welding table during fabrication

The skid plate and mount that hold the onboard air tank in the 4Runner’s spare tire well, with an enclosure for the solenoids. More on the 4Runner build page.

Stock rack

Three steel stands for the stock rack, before installation

A free-standing, wall-mounted rack for holding long lengths of steel in the side shop.
